North Carolina Museum of Art gets a new custom website
The client
Opening in Raleigh as the first major museum collection in the country officially formed by state legislation and funding in 1956, The North Carolina Museum of Art remains a model of enlightened public policy with free admission to their permanent collection. Currently, the museum encompasses collections that span more than 5,000 years of artistic work from antiquity to the present, an amphitheater for outdoor performances, and a variety of celebrated exhibitions and public programs that enrich the community.





The challenge
As a nonprofit organization with a mission to enrich the community through art and events, The North Carolina Museum of Art strived to create the same atmosphere on their website. The goal was to create an engaging and interactive website design that pushed exciting art-related articles and digital galleries to visitors. The site took bright and bold shape, mimicking that of a magazine where visitors could feel invited to hang out awhile, immersing themselves in a digital art experience.

The Results
Cleaning up and consolidating the code really helped NCMA improve their page load speeds. We made drastic changes to the navigation and hierarchy of the site to help streamline the content displayed. We fine-tuned the site’s search functionality and re-engineered the ExpressionEngine channel structure, which created a simplified and streamlined content viewing experience. With this simplified structure and navigation, NCMA has built their subscriber list, increased online donations, and has kept users on the site longer than ever before.
